Jazz/Metal Article in L.A. Times
The L.A. Times recently published an article about jazz’s influence and prevalence in metal music. Read the article here. Black Label Society guitarist Zakk Wylde and Intronaut bassist Joe Lester are quoted in the article.
It’s nice that some of the genre’s musical complexities are getting some exposure. Really though, the article only scratches the surface - jazz influence seems to be everywhere in metal nowadays, with bands such as Atheist, Cynic, Meshuggah, Pestilence, Dysrhythmia, Ephel Duath, and numerous others using various elements of jazz in their music. I’m surprised (okay not really) that Candiria wasn’t mentioned in the article, since they’ve even gone as far as putting full jazz tracks on some of their albums.
