Recommended Listening: The Victim’s Shudder

Creating haunting, otherworldly soundscapes that transport the listener to cold, hidden corners of the subconscious seems to be the musical goal of California’s The Victim’s Shudder, and they do it quite well.
Their music can be categorized with words like neoclassical, ambient, or ethereal, but none really do justice the band’s sound. Soft female vocals are used to create haunting melodies backed by bits of piano and strings, conveying a pervading sense of uneasiness and loss. The music is relaxing and peaceful yet deliciously unsettling, creating a persistent sense of dread.
Paradigms Records released the band’s full-length album “Terror Romance” last year. According to The Victim’s Shudder’s MySpace page, the band has completed enough songs for a new full length, and should also have a release out soon as part of God Is Myth’s Lovecraft series.
